Victorious Beers

Well....we did win a game this season (on 10/12...the day I turned 34 and 3 quarters) but hey, that's the first win in franchise history (other than a forfeit). I was quite proud to be a part of it! When the game commenced, we partied like it was 1999 of course!

Our 2008 campaign is over now and I must admit I'm feeling somewhat melancholy (and oddly sore). Sure was a fun year (in spite of all that losing). Met a great group of folks and had a chance to wake this body up a bit. Between biking to work, playing ball and hucking disc badly I can feel the residual cardiovascular benefits of my lifestyle choices. I like this feeling!

As far my performance is concerned, I did well. Got better in the field and made left field mine (played every minute of every game in position during the fall league). Although I don't know my batting stats for certain I can guess that my on base % was somewhere between .700-.800 and my batting average somewhere between .400-.600. This season I became known as the guy who can hit homers in practice but not in games. My errors were way down but mistakes still happen of course. I won't be quitting the day job.

I hope in the off season I can stay healthy and in game-ready shape. I'm even considering a gym membership in order to gain the self discipline I need to exercise regularly but I don't really want to pay to be a part of those germ factories. Gonna try and get folks together for BP every now and again and maybe even start up the flag football again.....it sort of fizzled.

Thankful for the Bad News Beers and excited to start again in the spring! Go Beers...............

Scored this magic off of ebay which ended my moratorium on online commerce (my fundage is slowly recovering, knock on wood.)

Got a few little spirits this year who will be soothed by the 'Tomy Waterful' as I once was somewhere back during the early 80's.

Don't forget the magic!

True Change

Welp, I registered yesterday....took it right down to the deadline. I carefully considered your opinions and my conscience and for many reasons I've decided it will be important to vote in this election.

More importantly though I've been thinking about ways I can become more politicly involved in terms of changing the system (as dabee has suggested). Think I'll do some research to find people out there fighting on behalf of my ideals and virtues like the "none of the above" campaign some years back.

As far as the big one: I think I may have found a candidate who truly needs my vote. He has virtually no chance of winning but his platform is right on! He's the closest thing to change we could hope for. He is running in his (unprecedented) fifth presidential election. I vowed not to vote Nader ever again after what happened to Gore but now more than ever I believe his leadership is desperately needed. Here's hopes of fixing a very broke system I don't believe in anymore. Help us Ralph Nader....you are our only hope!

to disenfranchise or not?

...i am truly struggling with the decision to register or not. Here's the thing; because I am opposed to our form of representational democracy I feel it is absolutely hypocritical to elect any representative. This is especially pertinent to the election of a president. I abhor the farcical institution known as the electoral college! Besides, Obama will win my county by at least 75%.

I'm on the fence because there are propositions I may feel strongly about. Just started looking into them. Someone recently told me though that if I turn in a partial ballot the whole ballot will be rejected. I will check with my mother on this issue. She helps to organize a polling site in my hometown.

Damn my high-fallutin ideals!

Godamnit! If ya haven't seen Rick Steves European travelouge pieces ya haven't been born yet. Caught one for the first time the other night on the British PBS affiliate. I never want to go to Europe ever unless I get to go with this guy!
