I have a new passion....and that is disc golf! I'm hooked like a rat to cheese....like a moth to flame...like a republican to money! Indulge my passion when you see me.
Poor Turbonephew took the time machine in last week for a boys weekend. What a blast! I mention the poor part because I dragged him over 70+ holes in three days on two courses. He reluctantly joined me at first but now I think he's totally hooked too. He asked to take a disc home with him so I gave him two.
I was introduced or indoctrinated, if you will, to this strange sport over the summer. My buddy KB (The Platinumsmith) brought me up to DeLaveaga which happens to be a premiere/championship disc golf course. I guess it's sort of like the Pebble Beach of golf.
I was aware of the course and the sport for a long time but for some reason I never tried it....probably a good thing! Everything happens at/in the right time and place.
KB showed me how to throw, comp'ed me some discs and with not much time I got the feel for throwing...now I'm stupid for this wacky, wild sport.
The hook(s):
This sport combines hiking with strategic frisbee throwing.
It's a battle aginst the self.
It's fantastic exercise and meditation.
...and it's almost free (you are welcome to make donations to the course(s) if you wish or can)
I like going up before work, early in the morning. Just got back from a round. The course is clear of people and I can do my own thing. Today I played straight through and ran each hole. Shot -3 (par4)...my best game ever!
With time I will see how my enthusiasm for the this meditation waxes and or wanes but right now I think this is all that and then some!
There is a downside. My course is loaded with poison oak, so if you pitch a disc down a ravine you're pretty screwed but hey, that's a lot of motivation to learn how to throw straight.
I got splotches all over my legs right now and even a little bit somewhere else.
