The Agony of Defeat

19 years ago last night

Bill let it slip past him and the Mets went on to win the 1986 World Series. Wow! What a feeling...what a powerful moment.

I guess it really doesn't matter anymore but I won't forget it.

Messing With Fire

I've received my second notice and I have yet to respond. Surely there will be repercussions!

I'm evading my civic responsibility to serve on a jury of my peers. I know this ain't smart and to be truthful I am quite nervous about the whole thing. I'm so worked up I googled jury duty to see if I could find a site that tells about the real punishment for delinquency. On the card they say I could be found in contempt of court, fined and sent to the slammer. One web site said I'll most likely be fined a hundred-something bucks (shit, again!) It will go down on my PERMANENT RECORD!!!!!!

So why all this...well I really don't have time. Who does? I work from 9-6 with the little spirits each day and I don't want to take sick time or vacation time to waste my time in court. I'm also unsure if I would make a good juror....and let's face it, I'm just trying to do the best I can do. I'm uncertain I could listen or pay attention in such an environment. I'm afraid my mind would wander under the door crack and through the X-ray scanner and right out the door of the courthouse. I'm also very biased about our systems of injustice.

So law enforcement, I'm sorry....this isn't the right time or the right place in my life to do this stuff. Leave me alone for now....check back with me when I'm 80, I'm sure I will be a great juror by then and hopefully I will have plenty of time to waste. In the meantime don't send me to jail or fine me or anything like that. I'm not really part of your problem....I just work for a living.

To Protect and Serve

he almost called the cops!

I was nearly tackled off my bike this morning by a security guard at the bus station. The drivers are all on strike right now and in their absense a posse of rent-a-cops are guarding the major bus station in my town. I think they are waiting for Mattewan, anyway I pedaled into the station (across the yellow tape) to stop at a coffee shop....I needed to use their pen! After using it I attempted to pedal away but I heard a voice shout, "SIR...IT'S TIME TO GET OFF OF YOUR BIKE AND WALK IT TO THE STREET." I responded, "uhhhhhhh, no" and began to pedal away. All of a sudden this ass is chasing me down the street, grabs my bike and stops me and says, "SIR, I KNOW NEXT TIME YOU ARE ON METROPOLITAN TRANSIT PROPERTY YOU WILL DISMOUNT FROM YOUR BIKE, RIGHT?"

hhhhhmmmmmmmmm

A Prayer

In my work with the little spirits I often come across messages that speak to my soul....sometimes from their mouths.....sometimes from their ideas......sometimes from their books. This is a passage given to us from Eric Carle. He, like other notable thinkers (David Elkind, John Holt, Bev Bos, Margaret Mead, my father and so on) imagine a slower world for children and all other living things. This page from "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly, Said the Sloth," reminds us that slow has nothing to do with being lazy. Sometimes I forget this.

Stupid dummy!

something about an open house?

Damn it! I was on a conference call this morning and I was bored so I opened up my browser and started adjusting my fantasy football roster and a whole bunch of time went by and then they said to me, "So you think you can do that?" and I was like, "excuse me?" and they were like something about an open house and then I agreed to something and I still don't know what it was. I hate when that happens!

I bought a car today

what have I done?

winds of change
I was sittting on the beach today and from out of no where a shaggy golden retriever happened upon me and pounced on top of my beer and my backpack and scattered sand all over me and tipped my beer into the sand and all of a sudden I felt like summer was over so I immediately packed up and left......and I also bought a car.
