Question: Which fighter pilot has the coolest helmet in the hit movie Top Gun?

journey of kings

Hope I'm never king! How compelling and often tragic are their journeys. If you are reading this post you've outlived the king of pop by one day or longer. There is no denying that Michael Jackson was one weird and controversial dude who also created some awesome magic while he was here. I won't cry or dance for him but I'll always appreciate his magic.

Another weird, eccentric king whose journey just gets wackier with time is Mike Tyson. Thinking of him cause I'm vegging on cable at a house sit. I've suspended my chip system while I'm here. Got absorbed by ESPN's airing of 'Mike Tyson's Greatest Hit Vol.2' What a fascinating collection of bouts that feature the fighter in his early years. Tyson landed 23 pro wins as a teenager...14 of those wins came by knock out in the first round. Tyson was entirely invincible and his wicked ability to crack you from his right or left rendered most opponents defenseless. Amazing to watch! He would lay a guy out and the poor dude never saw it coming.

Fast forward to today and Tyson is getting married days after his daughter dies and why judge him at all but you just get the feeling that this story is gonna end some day all messed up. The king's journey is for all to see and that's messy in itself.

It's an interesting aspect of human consciousness, trying to appreciate somebody's glory while looking past all their foibles. How to remember the king they wonder? Don't forget the magic!

Ron Burgundy says...

"Heartache is a bitch. But you know what's worse? Catching fire while barbecuing drunk. It's no contest."

Tomorrow never knows

In the Magic Tree, ostracized and humiliated, Mavungu leaves everything behind. He comes to an odd tree where he plucks a leaf. Unleashed is a world of powerful magic that transforms the down-trodden character into a prince. He is sworn to secrecy about the source of his power.

In a moment of weakness he reveals his secret and his dream world suddenly vanishes.

Recently I've been taking my lunch breaks in a eucalyptus grove but I'm not certain it will ever be there again. If it is...I might take a nap today.

hell yeah I have!

I'm rockin' these stickers for father's day. Not sure my dad will appreciate them as much as I do but I think they are the friggin' bomb!

awesome blurry grad shot

bringing my 10th ship to port today and kickin' off all the little spirits. We gave 'em a blast last night though and after a 14-hour workday I feel as blurry as my dressed up pic. Here's to 10 years of awesomeness!

beam me down

I'm excited about this $50 gizmo still in development. Lightlane provides a laser-projected bike lane for night riding (which I'm always nervous about.) It won't bend and swerve with you but at least gives approaching cars more chance to see you. Visibility is a good thing!...and worth a tank of gas for certain!!

Bruce Lee says...

...if you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it'll spread over into the rest of your life. It'll spread into your work, into your morality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.

chair dump

This could possibly be my favorite picture from Laura's trip last month but that's hard to say, there were other great ones too.

California and I still miss you!

upright

uniformed

Here's what the new threads look like. At first we thought the uni's might bring good mojo to the team. We faced off against Icy Hot (formerly the Thunderchickens or as we liked to refer to them, The Thundercocks!) I consider them our arch rivals. We went up 1-0 in the first half of the 1st inning but they blasted three runs and never looked back. They murderized us 19-1. So I guess we still suck, but at least we look sharp! I went a dismal 1 for 2 but got through the game with no fielding errors.
